It Takes a Village
At the end of the day, we’re not just a group of creatives — we’re a family. We work together, we play together, and we succeed together.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Alex is a project manager at ETC and is passionate about solving problems and improving processes. While his first job was as a bank teller when he was a senior in high school, Alex has had a variety of positions ranging from campus security to intern at Walt Disney World, where he helped produce 18 promotional videos.
An avid traveler, Alex has been to 45 of the 50 states and to eight different countries. He enjoys taking videos on his GoPro when he travels, which he uses to create trip highlight reels afterwards. His love of adventure led him to pursue a degree at BYU-Hawaii, where he swam with sharks — yikes — and developed a taste for POG (passion, orange, guava) juice — or, as he refers to it, “the nectar of the gods.”
In his free time, Alex enjoys watching the best TV show ever created (The Office, of course), longboarding on the Katy Trail, and spending time with his fiancée, Mirtha.
When asked what his favorite thing about ETC is, he cited “the creativity, ingenuity, and hospitality of the people here.”
Cory began honing his app development skills in 2008 and since then has proudly been involved in publishing hundreds of apps in both the iTunes and Google Play stores. Applications that he has personally built have been downloaded more than one million times and have even been featured on their respective stores.
No need to shout if you need him to work on a project, just shoot him an email. His inbox is his home base for all project to-do’s and since he’s always wearing his headphones, there’s a good chance he wouldn’t hear you anyway.
Need some conversation starters? He has two dogs, a cat, and a saltwater fish tank. Cory is originally from Phoenix, Arizona (which is probably why he loves winter) and can’t be called a morning person.
“We have a great mix of corporate importance, with startup scrappy mentality. It allows us the resources to do a great deal more, but without the soul-crushing that many corporate jobs end up providing. Never have I worked at a company where the term ‘work family’ meant so much,” he says of working at Eighty Three.
At the tender age of 16, he took his first job at McDonald’s and learned this hard lesson: the customer is always right. He’s held onto the foundation through the rest of his years. Early in his career he had the opportunity to serve as an art editor for the Florida Department of Education while still earning his degree, and a short while later accepted a position as Creative Art Director with the Florida Hospital Association – two positions he’s proud to have held.
He’s a give-the-shirt-off-his-back kind of guy and always has a pair of drumsticks handy for tapping out a good rhythm. Walk by his desk and you’ll see a photo of his daughter at just 7 years old – she’s now in high school, but serves as a daily inspiration for him.
Need some conversation starters? Google this first: Pahokee. It’s his Florida hometown. He is a photographer and enjoys watching movies. He stays grounded in prayer and has a 120-gallon saltwater fish tank. He listens to all kinds of music, but says gospel is a bit like good gumbo, it’s got just enough of everything.
“Leadership here has selected a great group of creative guys and gals that work together as one. I appreciate that I am allowed high levels of creative freedom and like that the company cultivates and encourages everyone’s individual creativity. I appreciate the professional and personal relationships that have developed as a results of working here,” Quarterman says of working at Eighty Three.
Senior UX / UI Designer
Xenia’s favorite part about design work is the final execution of a project and watching customers seamlessly interact with her intuitive design. An interesting and controversial piece she got the chance to work on actually made its way to international news outlets like The Telegraph and BBC.
The most important lessons she learned from her first mentor are that good things don’t happen to those who stay in their comfort zone and always invest in your education.
Her daily routine? Swing by her desk and you’ll catch Xenia designing web prototypes. She always has water on her desk and a loaded Nerf gun ready to fire at whoever interrupts her routine.
When she’s not busy designing the next client website, she likes to paint and spends time with her son and husband.
“Eighty Three is a young and fun company that has a lot of accomplishments and awards that inspire me to push harder. People really care about what they do and it’s not about their ego,” says Xenia of working at Eighty Three Creative.
Promotions Director and Account Manager
Our resident animal lover, Jen, always wanted to be a Veterinarian when she grew up. She was caught by her mom time after time taking in stray animals to feed and care for them. That piece of her heart is what we think makes her so great for the position that she has now. A few minutes with her, and you’ll feel as if you’ve been friends forever.
Even as a youngster, Jen was deeply interested in anything fashion related, so it’s not surprising she started her career at Fossil, where she helped them merchandise and open their Southlake, Texas store. She is a very dedicated and hard worker, and in her previous position saw a sales boost of almost $1 million in one year from a single account. She’ll tell you that one of her proudest moments was when she was personally referred by the Dean of her college to the President of Dallas Cowboys Merchandising, where she spent the next 5 years of her career.
You’ll never catch her without planner, and she’s probably already got you penciled in. Jen puts real effort into building solid relationships and holds herself firmly to never burn the proverbial bridges.
Need some conversation starters? Jen has two cats and a Mini Australian Shepherd. She loves a nice glass of red blend wine or a refreshing vodka press, kayaking, and her three favorite sports; football, baseball and hockey.
“We have one of the most talented teams of people that I’ve ever had the chance to work with. I learn so much from each person every day and I love the atmosphere. We are more like a family than just co-workers. We joke around, play games, have fun, and in doing so it allows us to be more creative,” Jen said of working at Eighty Three.
During his college career, Jesse worked as a bartender. He used the extra cash from tips to purchase engineering and software books, thus laying his path and further fueling his interest in understanding how things work. Consequently, he is also our resident mixologist- cheers!
A bit of an entrepreneur, Jesse has a couple startups under his belt, including Connect2Car, Inc. and Gtrol. He keeps his problem solving skills sharp by continuously learning new things and cherishes the best advice his first mentor gave him: Stay hungry, Stay foolish! He also always stays caffeinated – you’ll never find his desk void of coffee.
Jesse keeps a whiteboard at the foot of his bed for his to-do list, making it the first thing he sees when he wakes up, and the last thing he sees before closing his eyes each night. He takes each day as an opportunity to learn something new.
Need some conversation starters? Jesse is from London and loves to travel. He will soon be adding a German Shephard into his family, he spends a lot of time at the gym, and listens to pretty much any music genre (with the exception of country).
“There isn’t a typical day at Eighty Three, because there’s always something new on your plate. The open-space office plan allows for ease of interaction and collaboration with other employees versus the cubicles I’ve been in at other companies. And the people here are really energetic,” Jesse said of working at Eighty Three.
Darrell began honing his computer skills at an early age – early like when Oregon Trail was still a relevant game on the 3.5 floppy drive Mac. At that time, he didn’t know about the magical program Adobe Photoshop.
He’s inspired by the art of photography and all that it encompasses. He spends his day-to-day retouching and refining photos. He’s got a couple of awards under his belt, like an Addy Award from the AMA in photography and he was a Fujifilm/Sailor strap contest winner.
He cherishes the advice learned from his high school drama teacher: “If you want to be rich, learn from a rich man. If you want to be poor, listen to a poor man.”
He remains focused throughout the day wearing his Beats headphones, though as soon as the occasional Nerf fights start, he never misses it.
Need some conversation starters? He’s from Waco, Texas and his favorite music is English Rock. Darrell will tell you anything you want to know about physical fitness, he likes to stay in shape.
“It is a family-like environment. People here seem to really care for one another and want everyone to be the best and do the best they can,” says Darrell of working at Eighty Three Creative. “At previous jobs, people were treated as simply a warm body. Here, people are treated with respect.”
Merchandising Project Manager
Kelli has come a long way since her first job as the “bread girl” at Spring Creek BBQ, and she has learned some valuable lessons along the way. She was taught early on that character counts. “It’s all about how you treat people; whether they are a janitor or a cafeteria worker, you treat them like the CEO,” Kelli says.
A people person through and through, Kelli graduated with a master’s in law from Texas State University before deciding she was too happy and animated for that world. She decided her real passion was for people and organization, which is what lead her to pursue a career in project management.
Voted most charming in high school, you’ll always find Kelli with her beloved planner in hand, a smile on her face, and a fresh cup of coffee in tow.
Need some conversation starters? Her favorite drink is an iced caramel macchiato, she’s originally from Rockwall, she has a 160-pound Newfoundland named Ares, her favorite season is spring, and she loves naps and mimosas.
On working at ETC: “Everyone is so welcoming. I’ve felt like I have ‘come home’ ever since I arrived. Plus, each person is exceptionally talented in their field. It’s amazing to be around so many creative people.”
Creativity is what brought us together, culture is what keeps up together.
At Eighty Three Creative we believe that a happy team is the easiest way to ensure happy clients. From Nerf wars to ping pong tournaments and happy hours, we’re always finding new ways to have fun and grow creatively.
