It Takes a Village
At the end of the day, we’re not just a group of creatives, we’re a family. We work together, we play together, we laugh together, and ultimately, we succeed together.
Liz’s foray into the professional world began as a copier sales representative for Xerox (humorous now for the personality misfit). Regardless, winning several awards in top sales, she excelled.
Her crowning moments, however, were the 17 years she stayed home to raise her children and she’ll gladly tell you now they’re self-supporting adults and out of the house. We’d say she was very successful at that, too!
Need some conversation starters? Her two kids. She loves to travel and has been fortunate enough to see many different places all around the world. Liz plays tennis, enjoys reading, and in addition to dogs and cats, she has over the years shared her home with a parakeet, hermit crab, pet rats, and one very mean gerbil.
“The collaboration here is awesome. Everyone in the office pitches in to help on various projects and are very supportive of new ideas,” Liz says of working at Eighty Three.
Reese joined us through the intern program. He likes to dwell in design and he loves the conceptualization process. He enjoys coming up with strong visual solutions and then plugging them into his designs.
As a student, he had the opportunity to study abroad in Tianjin, China – he was part of a Cross-Cultural Design Exhibition at the Tianjin University of Technology. Reese worked with fellow designers who combined their work with the Tianjin design class.
His daily essential items include his sketchbook – because when inspirations hit, Reese is ready to sketch it out! Music also plays a big role in his creative process – it’s his other way of getting inspired as he designs. His daily goals consist of making the world a more visually beautiful place and his favorite part of the day is when he gets to work on branding projects.
Need some conversation starters? Reese is also a musician who rocks at the drums. His favorite superhero is either Batman or Spiderman – it really depends on the day.
“This company is a diamond in the rough. Eighty Three consists of a team that puts out daily exceptional work by truly genuine creatives. The amount of teamwork and comradery generated really makes this place act as a family. To me, that is the best way to get the job done,” Reese says of working at Eighty Three.
Juan is the Assistant Creative Director for Eighty Three Creative, Inc. He started his career in a small in-house graphic design team at Tamco, a lighting manufacturer based out of Florida. His passion for the creative process is when he gets the chance to share ideas and concepts with the team.
Juan gets his daily inspiration by seeing all the creativity that floats around the office. One of his accomplishments includes The Wire, a quarterly magazine publication for our client, City Electric Supply. He manages and designs the layout of the publication that has a circulation of 225,000 copies, and is distributed to 450 branch locations nationwide.
When he’s not busy working on new design concepts for Eighty Three Creative, he loves to cook, and spends his time chasing Chunky, his French Bulldog around Dallas.
“I love Eighty Three! It’s a place for growth, for both clients and for employees, and it’s where the team becomes family – where creativity flows on a daily basis,” says Juan of working at Eighty Three Creative.
Darrell began honing his computer skills at an early age – early like when Oregon Trail was still a relevant game on the 3.5 floppy drive Mac. At that time, he didn’t know about the magical program Adobe Photoshop.
He’s inspired by the art of photography and all that it encompasses. He spends his day-to-day retouching and refining photos. He’s got a couple of awards under his belt, like an Addy Award from the AMA in photography and he was a Fujifilm/Sailor strap contest winner.
He cherishes the advice learned from his high school drama teacher: “If you want to be rich, learn from a rich man. If you want to be poor, listen to a poor man.”
He remains focused throughout the day wearing his Beats headphones, though as soon as the occasional Nerf fights start, he never misses it.
Need some conversation starters? He’s from Waco, Texas and his favorite music is English Rock. Darrell will tell you anything you want to know about physical fitness, he likes to stay in shape.
“It is a family-like environment. People here seem to really care for one another and want everyone to be the best and do the best they can,” says Darrell of working at Eighty Three Creative. “At previous jobs, people were treated as simply a warm body. Here, people are treated with respect.”
Owen is a photographer for Eighty Three Creative. His first job was at a dude ranch shoveling horse manure, but after 20 years of growth, he doesn’t have need for that shovel anymore. Instead he pursued a career in the creative field as a highly educated and artistic photographer.
Owen has a passion for the creative flow – whether it’s photography or discussing logo development with the designers, he’s all about implementing ideas and watching them grow.
His past experiences include assisting a sculpture artist after college, and he once photographed the band Alice Cooper playing a small record store concert. He was so close he could see all their bald spots.
Swing by Owen’s desk and you’ll often catch him with a cup of coffee (hot or cold) at any time of day, and listening to BB King, Pavarotti, or The Pixies. When he’s not busy practicing photography, he spends his day mountain biking, creating art, and cracking jokes.
“The people, the projects, the culture, what’s not to like? We all are creative, kind, and have a good sense of humor. For me, those three things make an ideal work environment,” says Owen of working at Eighty Three Creative.
Nick is a Graphic Designer for Eighty Three Creative, Inc., He focuses on creating bold designs and new concept ideas in order to improve brand experience.
Nick enjoys growing his capabilities such as photography and videography. He had the opportunity to photograph for Hillsong United and singer Lauren Daigle. If you happen to walk by his desk, you’ll find him focused on the next marketing campaign, and listening to indie rock tunes. Two things you’ll find on his desk: Typography magazines and a surfer documentary photobook.
When he’s not working on design concepts for ETC, you’ll find him working on other side projects for The Porch at Watermark Church or shooting photography for concerts in town.
“At Eighty Three, we are not ordinary people. We don’t do ordinary things. To me this isn’t just a career. This is my family I get to do life with, and we create the best product and content you’ll see and experience in DFW and beyond. To me, it’s our passion for excellence and the detail is what set us apart,” says Nick of working at Eighty Three Creative.
Chief Executive Officer
His passion for creativity was born during his first job, when working at a warehouse collating boxes, sweeping floors, and packing product. He would see various kinds of artwork ranging from packaging design to business cards, and knew that he could offer something much more creative.
Working through the ranks to become the Marketing Manager at one of the largest electrical wholesalers in the U.S., he was able to achieve one of his greatest accomplishments. He and his team successfully carried out a national rebrand for their company, which later on they received an award for. Thomas was also recently given the opportunity to reposition an 18-story high rise in downtown Dallas.
Within minutes of meeting Thomas, you’ll notice a couple of things about him. 1. He is infatuated with all things technology (Apple products to be exact). We’re pretty sure he has almost every product Apple has on the market right now, at his fingertips. 2. He sure does love coffee. If we didn’t know any better, we’d think he had stock in Starbucks. And last, but certainly not least, he is one of the most genuine and laid back people you will ever meet. He doesn’t take himself too seriously, which is why we think he’s been so successful in his career.
Looking for conversation starters? He’s from Wolverhampton, England (we checked, it’s a real town). He’s a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan, and even named his dog (Toews) after their captain. As for his music taste, let’s just say it is eclectic, cold weather (Christmas is his favorite season), and most of all, his gorgeous wife.
“I don’t like Eighty Three, I love it! I love everything Eighty Three stands for and I love the look on a client’s face when we present them with a finished product, knowing we have exceeded expectations. It’s all about culture here; we are a family. And family is the most important thing in the word,” Thomas says of working at Eighty Three..
Cory began honing his app development skills in 2008 and since then has proudly been involved in publishing hundreds of apps in both the iTunes and Google Play stores. Applications that he has personally built have been downloaded more than one million times and have even been featured on their respective stores.
No need to shout if you need him to work on a project, just shoot him an email. His inbox is his home base for all project to-do’s and since he’s always wearing his headphones, there’s a good chance he wouldn’t hear you anyway.
Need some conversation starters? He has two dogs, a cat, and a saltwater fish tank. Cory is originally from Phoenix, Arizona (which is probably why he loves winter) and can’t be called a morning person.
“We have a great mix of corporate importance, with startup scrappy mentality. It allows us the resources to do a great deal more, but without the soul-crushing that many corporate jobs end up providing. Never have I worked at a company where the term ‘work family’ meant so much,” he says of working at Eighty Three.
Creativity is what brought us together, culture is what keeps up together.
At Eighty Three Creative, we believe that a happy team is the easiest way to ensure happy clients.
Our company culture promotes collaboration and guarantees that no idea, no matter how ludicrous, is welcomed and entertained — although we can’t guarantee we won’t laugh.
