It Takes a Village
At the end of the day, we’re not just a group of creatives — we’re a family. We work together, we play together, and we succeed together.
DJ joined our team through the intern program. He loves communicating through the art of design and is passionate about illustration – it’s his form of expressing what goes through his head.
As a student, he was an editor and the chief of the campus design team at Centenary College. His experience includes working as a design intern for Crawford Design Group in Shreveport, LA. He was responsible for designing cover pages, ads, layout spreads, and articles for the Shreveport Magazine.
One of DJ’s graphic design pieces was selected as the top 15 in Louisiana, which was displayed at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery.
Need some conversations starters? DJ’s favorite thing to do in the morning is eat a giant bowl of cinnamon toast crunch. He also loves R&B, soul, and gospel music. He loves spending time with his friends and is a huge fan of the winter. His daily items? DJ never leaves his home without his sketch pad and his iPhone.
Why Eighty Three Creative? “The people. Everyone is a family and it’s genuine. I also get to do something different every day. I’m put into situations outside of my comfort zone and I love that! I see myself growing into an even more talented designer,” DJ says of working at Eighty Three.
Susan got her start working with creatives at a restaurant with singing waiters, where she was the assistant manager. It was her first experience working with creatives, and she has worked with them ever since. As an account manager, she gets to work with clients and the creative team, which she loves.
If you stop by her desk, you will quickly notice some form of caffeine, a pencil, Carmex, and gum. You’ll also find a planner and an assortment of Post-it notes, where she houses her to-do list.
In her free time, Susan enjoys binging on Netflix, playing board, card, and video games with friends and family, spending time with her dogs Lexi and Lola, and traveling. Her favorite place that she has been so far being Florence, Italy.
When asked what she loves most about working at Eighty Three Creative, Susan said, “The people. They’re super friendly, and there’s so much talent within these walls!”
She enjoys being a part of the whole creative process, which explains why she’s passionate about account management – Madeline gets to work with clients and be involved in the entire creative process all while building and maintaining great relationships.
She helped launch two magazines while working in Chicago. The unique and rewarding experience allowed her to write and design page layouts.
The lesson she brings from her previous mentor is that anything can be fixed. If something goes wrong, there’s always new ways to make it right.
She keeps her to-do list in various places – in a notebook, loose paper, or on her iPhone. Two things you’ll always find around her desk: a coffee mug, and a collection of sticky notes.
Need some conversation starters? Madeline is new to Dallas. She grew up in Michigan and lived in Chicago for the past five years. She enjoys reading and watching documentaries about food and baking. Madeline enjoys dancing and yoga classes.
Why Eighty Three Creative? “Besides the Nerf wars? Definitely the people. While I’ve gotten to work with some pretty awesome folks, I’ve never felt so welcome and part of the team as quickly as I have here and that is all to do with the people,” says Madeline of working at Eighty Three Creative.
One of Kenna’s biggest accomplishments is a current project: updating signage for one of our client’s, City Electric Supply, at over 300 branches. From initial site survey, to working with group managers and approving final invoices, there are many steps involved and Kenna takes necessary steps to complete this extensive and ongoing project.
The most important lesson she learned from her mentor is to always be completely honest and transparent. It’s better to be upfront with what is happening. Someone will always appreciate honesty.
Her daily routine? When you swing by her desk, you will usually hear Kenna on the phone helping and directing our clients, you’ll also see a plethora of sticky notes and a Red Bull that gets her through the day.
Need some conversation starters? Kenna owns two Shih-tzu’s – Harley and Hailey. Kenna is a true Dallasite, she was born and raised in the metroplex. She enjoys classic rock, loves watching sports with her husband and friends, and her favorite season is summer as she hosts an annual crawfish boil and attends local golf tournaments.
“I’m a part of something that started from the ground-up. I’m very thankful to be at the beginning stages of something great! Our culture is completely different than any place I’ve worked before. We are a work family and are truly friends outside of work,” says Kenna of the team at Eighty Three Creative.
Darrell began honing his computer skills at an early age – early like when Oregon Trail was still a relevant game on the 3.5 floppy drive Mac. At that time, he didn’t know about the magical program Adobe Photoshop.
He’s inspired by the art of photography and all that it encompasses. He spends his day-to-day retouching and refining photos. He’s got a couple of awards under his belt, like an Addy Award from the AMA in photography and he was a Fujifilm/Sailor strap contest winner.
He cherishes the advice learned from his high school drama teacher: “If you want to be rich, learn from a rich man. If you want to be poor, listen to a poor man.”
He remains focused throughout the day wearing his Beats headphones, though as soon as the occasional Nerf fights start, he never misses it.
Need some conversation starters? He’s from Waco, Texas and his favorite music is English Rock. Darrell will tell you anything you want to know about physical fitness, he likes to stay in shape.
“It is a family-like environment. People here seem to really care for one another and want everyone to be the best and do the best they can,” says Darrell of working at Eighty Three Creative. “At previous jobs, people were treated as simply a warm body. Here, people are treated with respect.”
Chief Executive Officer
His passion for creativity was born during his first job, when working at a warehouse collating boxes, sweeping floors, and packing product. He would see various kinds of artwork ranging from packaging design to business cards, and knew that he could offer something much more creative.
Working through the ranks to become the Marketing Manager at one of the largest electrical wholesalers in the U.S., he was able to achieve one of his greatest accomplishments. He and his team successfully carried out a national rebrand for their company, which later on they received an award for. Thomas was also recently given the opportunity to reposition an 18-story high rise in downtown Dallas.
Within minutes of meeting Thomas, you’ll notice a couple of things about him. 1. He is infatuated with all things technology (Apple products to be exact). We’re pretty sure he has almost every product Apple has on the market right now, at his fingertips. 2. He sure does love coffee. If we didn’t know any better, we’d think he had stock in Starbucks. And last, but certainly not least, he is one of the most genuine and laid back people you will ever meet. He doesn’t take himself too seriously, which is why we think he’s been so successful in his career.
Looking for conversation starters? He’s from Wolverhampton, England (we checked, it’s a real town). He’s a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan, and even named his dog (Toews) after their captain. As for his music taste, let’s just say it is eclectic, cold weather (Christmas is his favorite season), and most of all, his gorgeous wife.
“I don’t like Eighty Three, I love it! I love everything Eighty Three stands for and I love the look on a client’s face when we present them with a finished product, knowing we have exceeded expectations. It’s all about culture here; we are a family. And family is the most important thing in the word,” Thomas says of working at Eighty Three..
Junior Account Manager
Our favorite vision-impaired Eagle Scout, Cooper’s first job was at a vet’s office as a kennel assistant. Here, he learned that, despite his love for animals, he didn’t want to spend the rest of his days picking up dog droppings. So, he traded taking care of animals for taking care of clients’ needs instead.
As a junior account manager, Cooper loves engaging with clients and our team to make sure everyone is on the same page. “Synergy makes working fun,” says Cooper.
In his free time, Cooper enjoys playing video games, watching sports (he’s a huge Dallas sports fan), and hanging with friends.
When asked what he loves about working at Eighty Three Creative, Cooper said “I love the laid-back, yet incredibly professional vibe in the office. I also love how everyone supports each other. It’s empowering.”
Lauren has over 10 years of experience in project management, event planning, marketing, operations management, and client relations. She is passionate about helping companies grow and achieve great results through tailored project planning and the joy she finds in working with others.
Throughout her career, Lauren has installed a successful project management department, built an award-winning client services team from the ground up, and has helped to grow a leading industry conference.
Outside of the office, Lauren loves to spend time with her husband Oliver and their dog, Millie. You’ll find them playing tennis, hanging at White Rock Lake, or enjoying many of the amazing Dallas patios and rooftop restaurants.
“It’s truly collaborative. Everyone listens and cares about your opinions, and you feel valued right off the bat. You can tell they live up to the fact that they are an “employee-first” culture,” Lauren says about working at ETC.
Creativity is what brought us together, culture is what keeps up together.
At Eighty Three Creative we believe that a happy team is the easiest way to ensure happy clients. From Nerf wars to ping pong tournaments and happy hours, we’re always finding new ways to have fun and grow creatively.
